Andrew Ellis
Vice President

Andrew Ellis is a Physician Assistant in the U.S. Navy currently stationed at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.  He is married to Kasey Ellis, his high school sweetheart, and six of their eight children currently attend Grace Classical School.   Andrew has a heart for building strong families, and teaching children the Word of God.  Andrew and Kasey are active members at Centerview Baptist Church in Jacksonville, NC.

Cindy James
(ex officio)

Cindy James is the current Head of School and serves as an ex officio member of the board.  Cindy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and Masters of Teaching from The University of Virginia.  She has vast experience in academic leadership and the world of classical education. She and her husband, Clay, have four sons ranging from a senior in high school to their oldest who is newly married.

John Magill

John Magill was born and raised in Indiana where he graduated from Butler University in 2007.  John and his wife, Rebekah, were married in 2009.  They now reside in the Jacksonville area where Rebekah teaches at GCS and John is a Marine Helicopter Pilot stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, New River.  He has served in the Marine Corps since 2008 and has held various positions ranging from Artillery, to Airfield management, to Instructor Pilot.  Three of John and Rebekah’s four children are students at GCS.  The Magills are members of Harvest Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, NC.

Katie Martin
President & Board Chairman 

Katie Martin is a founding member of the GCS Board of Directors.  She holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and has taught and tutored students from pre-k to college in a variety of settings since 2003.  She was introduced to classical Christian education while homeschooling her oldest son and quickly found that the classical model was everything she always felt education should be.  All four of her wonderful children are students at GCS.  Katie enjoys going to the beach with her family, reading great books, attending the annual Repairing the Ruins conference, and spending time with her church family, Pillar Church of Jacksonville.

Mark Thompson

Mark is a happily married GCS grandfather, retired Marine, father of four and grandfather of six children.  He has a passion for the Lord, his church, and classical Christian education.  Mark’s education includes a B.S. from Liberty University, an M.A. in Religion from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, and an Ed.D. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Mark is the Executive Pastor at Centerview Baptist Church, an adjunct professor in the Doctorate of Education in Christian Leadership program at Liberty University, and serves as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the New River Baptist Association.

Christine Zimbelman

Christine Zimbelman is wife to Doug and mother to their 4 children. Currently, her children are at the grammar, logic and rhetoric levels. Christine graduated from Adams State University in Colorado with a degree in Elementary Education and has taught in both public and private schools and in the co-op and homeschool community.
