Head of School
Mr. Ryan Baker serves as the Head of School at Grace Classical School beginning with the
2019-2020 school year. He holds a B.S. Ed. in English Education from Northern Arizona
University. After teaching literature, rhetoric, and humanities for 17 years, in 2014 Mr. Baker
began serving as Rhetoric Principal and later Dean of the Upper School at Cary Christian
School in Cary, NC. He and his wife, Heather, are blessed with six children.
Mrs. Sarah Kaetterhenry has been classically educated since birth, with her mom administrating a classical co-op in her high school years, and continued her classical education at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, VA. Since then she has thrived at bringing order to chaos, working as the administrative coordinator and employee-relations manager for her family’s company, then as a success coordinator for a tech startup, and—most notably—as the domestic engineer of a USMC household. Sarah is passionate about classical education and is thrilled to be able to use her experience at GCS. She enjoys dating her husband, caring for her two daughters, snuggling her two dogs, researching alternative health science, and napping.
Mrs. Alysia Hicks graduated from Arizona Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Christian Ministries – Counseling after earning a lower degree of Biblical Studies from Calvary Chapel Bible College. After college, she worked as an admissions advisor and event planner for the University until she met her husband and moved to Jacksonville, NC. Alysia is married to Drew, a Marine who works in the aviation field, and is mother to two wonderful little girls and a precious boy. After moving away from Jacksonville for a couple of years, the Hicks’ family is happy to be back “home” and involved with GCS. In their free time you can usually find them spending time together as a family or hosting friends in their home for game nights.
Mrs. Reiko Mayes is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from St. Louis University. She is married to her husband, Anthony, who currently serves in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune. Reiko and her husband enjoy spending time in God’s word, and being with friends and family.
Teaching Faculty & STAFF
Grade level assignments may change between academic years; this list reflects 2018-19 positions. In many cases, our faculty share teaching responsibilities across several grades according to their respective specialties.
Kim Winship – Jr. Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Kim Winship was born in Austin TX. She later moved to VA where she attended Longwood University. Kim majored in early childhood education before marrying her marine, Eric, and moving to Southern California. Kim taught preschool for two years in Southern California prior to starting a family and homeschooling their five children. Kim and Eric now reside in Hubert, NC. In her spare time, Kim enjoys the beach with her children and four grandchildren.
Amanda Young – Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Amanda Young holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lee University and worked in the field of childhood behavioral health and social services before working with children in an educational setting. Amanda and her husband, Josiah, have a 2 year old son named Rowan and a spoiled Shetland Sheepdog named Ruby. Amanda has a passion for working with children and praises God for the opportunity to continue doing so at GCS this year.

Alicia Rogers – First Grade Teacher
Mrs. Alicia Rogers has homeschooled three of her five children from kindergarten through eleventh grade and volunteered with children at church over the past 15 years. While her husband Bryce, of 17 years of marriage, was enlisted in the US Marine Corps, Alicia was grateful to stay home and raise their five unique and flamboyant children. Their youngest three children attend GCS. God has given Alicia an ardent heart to parallel God’s Word and acknowledge His beauty through each aspect of life in hopes that others may grow in what is good. In her spare time, you may find Alicia reading, admiring flowers outdoors, or playing family games.
Sara Beachy – Second Grade Teacher
Mrs. Sara Beachy has taught students at almost every level and brings a genuine love for her students to the classroom. During the 2017-18 academic year, Sara served GCS in the vital role of Faculty Director where she guided our teachers at all levels. She received her K-8th grade teaching certificate in South Carolina after earning her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Furman University. Mrs. Beachy taught third, fourth and fifth grades in Christian schools for eight years before having children. In 2016, after many years as a stay at home mom, she joined the faculty of GCS. Sara, her husband Grant, and their 3 children have lived in Jacksonville for the past 8 years.
Amy Cochran – Second Grade Teacher
Mrs. Amy Cochran spent most of her childhood in Dallas, TX after immigrating to the United States with her parents. She was classically home-schooled until high school, when she attended the local community college. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Biology and in Psychology from Ouachita Baptist University and has presented her research at national and international research conferences. Amy is married to Brent Cochran, who currently serves in the US Marine Corp at Camp Lejeune. They have a lovely daughter named Sophie, who started kindergarten at Grace Classical this year. This is Amy’s first year teaching and she has really enjoy it and has loved getting to know all the students at our school.
Suzanne Bledsoe – Third Grade & Upper Level Science Teacher
Mrs. Suzanne Bledsoe is the 3rd grade teacher and SWR Coordinator at Grace Classical School. Mrs. Bledsoe holds her Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Engineering from North Carolina State University. Suzanne has been married to her husband Trent since 2004. They have 2 children, Luke and Maelyn who both attend GCS. Mrs. Bledsoe enjoys sharing her experience in Spell to Write and Read with children and co-teachers at GCS. She is passionate about teaching children the Gospel, which she has done serving in ministry in her church families for the past 15 years. Mrs. Bledsoe and her family live in Hubert, NC where they spend most days enjoying the view and fishing in the Intracoastal Waterway.
Tara Seykora – Fourth & Fifth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Tara Seykora has taught many levels of many subjects and has been with GCS from the beginning. She now teaches 4th and 5th grade. Tara, her husband Joe, and their four children moved from Okinawa, Japan to Jacksonville for the second time in July 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Taylor University and a Master’s degree in Management from Troy University. She taught middle school in Virginia and Seoul, Korea, and was a tutor and Education Director at a Virginia Sylvan Learning Center for several years. Before her family came to GCS in 2016, Mrs. Seykora enjoyed tutoring with Classical Conversations and has classically homeschooled her four children.
Brianna Eggert – Sixth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Brianna Eggert holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education and ESOL endorsement from Clearwater Christian College. As a wife to a Marine and mother to three girls, Brianna stays quite busy. If she’s not outdoors with her family, you may find her gardening or crafting. In the past, Brianna has tutored English language learners and enjoyed teaching high schoolers. She recently began teaching middle school students and has loved it! Brianna has a strong desire to teach and explore God’s truth through life, literature, and learning and is especially passionate to reach the hearts of today’s youth.
Rebekah Magill – History Teacher, Lower & Upper School
Mrs. Rebekah Magill studied Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies at Grove City College for two years. After marrying her husband, John, she transferred to the University of North Carolina in Wilmington where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in History. Rebekah’s tutoring experience began as she assisted her mother in homeschooling her ten younger siblings in a variety of subjects. She went on to tutor at the college level in Philosophy, and most recently has co-taught her own children in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Rebekah loves the Lord and it has been her lifelong goal to nurture and train disciples of Jesus. Two of her four children attend GCS.
Lanning Carr – Math & Logic Teacher, Upper School
Mr. Lanning Carr was Vice President and Director of Operations and Finance at the Whirlpool Corporation where had a 33 year career before retiring from the business world and pursuing his lifelong passion for teaching. In addition to teaching middle school algebra for six years, he volunteered with youth, mentoring and coaching baseball, basketball and football for forty years. Mr. Carr’s leisure activities include business consulting, conducting credit and budgeting workshops, teaching the Gospel Project at Centerview Baptist Church, and preparing tax returns for AARP. He enjoys an occasional game of chess or backgammon. He and his lovely wife, Diane have been married for forty-nine years. They have two beautiful daughters and three grandchildren.
Catherine Parker – Science Teacher, Upper School
Mrs. Catherine Parker lives in Swansboro with her husband Ben and their three children, Ann, Luke, and Cora. Mrs. Parker’s oldest is a kindergartner at GCS. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Nutrition. Mrs. Parker stayed home with her children for four years before teaching at GCS. She thoroughly enjoys teaching classes where God’s Glory is revealed through the study of science. Catherine enjoys playing soccer, cooking, and spending time with her family at the beach.
Haiden Grey – Science Teacher, Upper School
Mrs. Haiden Grey is a pediatric nurse practitioner with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of North Georgia and a Masters of Science in Nursing from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Haiden has been a nurse for twenty years and has homeschooled her children where the Marine Corps has led them for the last seven years. This is her fist formal year of teaching and the family’s third year being part of the GCS Family.
Eric Winship – Writing and Literature Teacher, Upper School
Mr. Eric Winship is the proud husband of a Marine wife and father of five homeschooled children. Eric worked at and attended Liberty University. He graduated with honors securing a Bachelor of Science in Religion and a minor in Bible. Professionally, Eric owns and operates IS Answers, a small outsourced IT company. It is his love for God, theology proper, literature and writing that has brought him to the ministry of GCS.
Lindsey Olson – Art Teacher, Lower School
Lindsey was born and raised in Virginia. She loves capturing the beauty she finds in the world and sharing it with others through photography, painting, graphic design, and any other creative outlet she can find. She holds a certificate in professional photography from the New York Institute of Photography. Art has been a therapeutic outlet for her as a stay at home mom of two boys for the last 6 years. Before that she worked for her church at different times as the children’s ministries coordinator and the administrative assistant to the pastors. She has taught Sunday school to every age, and loves each one. Helping children grow to know the character of God and His great love for them is one of her greatest joys. Her happy place is a quiet beach with her husband and boys.
